Eighth Air Force/ Joint-Global Strike Operations Center

Headquartered at Barksdale Air Force Base in the communities of Bossier City and Shreveport, La., Eighth Air Force is one of two active duty Numbered Air Forces in Air Force Global Strike Command. The mission of the "Mighty Eighth" is to safeguard America's interests through strategic deterrence and global combat power. The flexible, conventional and nuclear strategic mission gives 8th AF the ability to deploy forces and engage enemy threats both from home station or forward positioned, anywhere and at any time.

Our motto is "Deterrence through strength, global strike on demand."

Barksdale AFB

2nd Bomb Wing

Exceptional warriors ready now to provide responsive, flexible and accurate bomber combat power and expeditionary combat support to warfighting commanders... anytime... anywhere.

 

307th Bomb Wing (AFRC)

The 307th Bomb Wing operates the B-52H Stratofortress. Located at Barksdale AFB, La., the Wing employs approximately 1,600 Air Force Reserve personnel. The primary mission of the 93rd Bomb Squadron is to conduct strategic heavy bombardment and maritime operations in the B-52.

 

Dyess AFB

7th Bomb Wing

The 7th Bomb Wing's mission is to provide overwhelming long-range strike within hours anywhere in the world. It is also charged with producing combat-ready aircrews in the Air Force's only B-1B formal training unit.

 

Ellsworth AFB

28th Bomb Wing

The 28th Bomb Wing guarantees combat airpower for America. The mission of the 28th Bomb Wing is to put bombs on target. The 28th Bomb Wing is home to 27 B-1B Lancers, and in 2012 began flying MQ-9 Reaper missions.

 

Minot AFB

5th Bomb Wing

Known by its nickname, the Warbirds, the 5th Bomb Wing is part of Air Force Global Strike Command as well as the host wing at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. The bomb wing and its fleet of B-52H Stratofortress bombers serve as part of the Air Force's conventional and strategic combat force. 

 

Offutt AFB

95th Wing

The 95th Wing operates a diverse set of Joint Total Force units and capabilities to assure worldwide survivable and enduring command and control to the President, Secretary of Defense, and Chairman throughout all hazards and the entirety of the threat spectrum to deter strategic attack on the homeland and enable uninterrupted execution of national security responsibilities.

 

Whiteman AFB

509th Bomb Wing

Whiteman Air Force Base is home of the most technologically advanced bomber, the B-2 Spirit. The B-2 brings massive firepower to bear, in a short time, anywhere on the globe through previously impenetrable defenses.

 

131st Bomb Wing (ANG)

The 131st Bomb Wing's primary operational mission is to provide full spectrum, expeditionary, B-2 global strike and combat support capabilities. Wing manpower is also dedicated to providing for the unit's overall combat readiness, operating support functions for tenant and attached units, and for performing combat and emergency duty in support of both federal and state missions.

 

 

 

Joint-Global Strike Operation Center Units

 

608th Air Operations Center

Located at Barksdale AFB, the 608th Air Operations Center's mission is to plan, direct, command, control, monitor and assess long-range strike missions to deliver operational and strategic effects for U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and theatre geographic combatant commands.

 

 

Standoff Munitions Application Center

Located at Barksdale AFB, the Standoff Munitions Application Center (SMAC) supports the Warfighter and enables full-spectrum dominance through integrated planning of lethal and non-lethal joint and multinational standoff fires.

 

Joint Nuclear Operations Center

The Joint Nuclear Operations Center directs and delivers Strategic Bomber, Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), and near real-time Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) reporting capabilities to U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) for planning and execution of sovereign options for allied assurance, deterrence of Global aggression, defense of vital United States interests, and swift defeat of our adversaries. The JNOC specifically manages nuclear bombers, ICBMs, and sustains alert forces in support of USSTRATCOM. The JNOC also provides the Joint Forces Air Component Commander (JFACC) and Air Forces Strategic (AFSTRAT) operational expertise on unit capabilities and limitations.
