With the Mauna Kea volcano in the background, a B-52 Stratofortress from the 23rd Expeditionary Bomb Squadron, flies over the Mauna Loa volcano, Hawaii, on Dec. 28, 2015, during a training mission. Two B-52 aircrews currently assigned here as part of the U.S. Pacific Command's continuous bomber presence, conducted a bomber Airmen heritage flyby of the Mauna Loa volcano. The flyby was part of the 80th anniversary of the 23rd Bombardment Squadron using bombs to divert lava flow from the volcano that threatened the town of Hilo, Hawaii, in 1935.
