  • Air Force photo contest winners highlight family theme

    The Air Force recently announced its 2020 photo contest winners. The winners – first, second and third place in five categories – were among more than 600 entries submitted for the annual contest. Entries for this year’s competition with a theme of “We Are Family” were submitted during July. Participants entered up to two images for one of the categories. A panel judged the entries based on impact, creativity and technical excellence.

    With school being out, this is the perfect time for Team Minot families to learn a new skill. Recently, Airmen from the 5th Civil Engineer Squadron at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, started showing Team Minot families fun STEM related projects to do at home. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Electronics and Mathematics. Senior Airman Zach Mikwyn and Shanice Montana-Graham, 5th CES electrical power production Airmen organized a series of videos containing fun science related projects to do at home.

  • Training lethal defenders for lethal weapons

    Sunbaked skin presses against the butts of rifles, as sweat runs down foreheads, brimming along chinstraps and soaking into shirt collars. Their eyes scan the urban terrain, searching for enemies from the surrounding grassy hills of Camp Guernsey, Wyo. U.S. Marines and Airmen from around the globe trained together for the first time in the advanced tactical course from June 9-20th.

    Experience the story of Kris Barney, the 2019 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year and Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, spouse. In 1999, her daughter, Miranda Salley, was murdered by Barney's ex-husband and Miranda's father, Charles Salley.   • Team Minot Airman receives Bronze Star Medal

    Master Sgt. Philip McAlpin, 5th Civil Engineer Squadron heavy repair superintendent, received a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement while deployed to Syria. McAlpin’s deployed responsibilities were to oversee repair and maintenance for the Kobani Landing Zone, a semi-prepared dirt runway.
  • Combat Raider 19-1 keeps forces ready, lethal

    Aircrew from all 8th Air Force bases flew over the Powder River Training Complex together for the first time during Combat Raider 19-1 on Oct. 16-18. They coordinated with joint tactical air controllers from the Royal Canadian Armed Forces and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, who helped coordinate simulated air strikes from the ground.

    Col. Bradley Cochran is the 55th commander of the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota.
