  • Air Force leadership conducts privatized housing tour at Barksdale

    The Honorable John W. Henderson, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment and Energy, and Gen. Arnold W. Bunch Jr., Air Force Materiel Command commander, visited Barksdale Jan. 6, 2020 to conduct a privatized housing tour. The tour familiarized the leaders with the current condition of privatized base housing here, aligning with current Air Force efforts to improve the Military Housing Privatization Initiative Program for the service.
  • 28th Medical Group hosts DECON exercise

    The 28th Medical Group hosted a decontamination exercise to demonstrate and test their readiness and capabilities to handle a simulated Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear threat in a real-world situation. They were timed and tested on their ability to don their gear, set up a DECON station, set up a water heater to provide warm water to the station and clean all harmful chemicals and materials from a training dummy. They were able to complete their task well under the allotted completion time and earn required certifications pertaining to their career field.
  • Dakota Thunder Run, Engines roar and B-1s soar

    ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. – The 19th annual Veteran’s Recognition Ceremony was kicked off by the Dakota Thunder Run at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., Aug. 6, 2019. Two B-1B Lancer static displays were parked on the flight line for riders to enjoy and take photos of before the ride. Over 170 motorcycle riders began their ride on base and proceeded to Sturgis to participate in the ceremony.
  • Getting down and dirty

    It’s after four in the afternoon and Airmen from the 2nd Civil Engineer Squadron Pavements and Heavy Equipment Flight are returning to their building after a long day working around the base. Their shirts are stained with sweat and their boots are covered in dirt after. As they begin to pack their equipment and head home to clean up, they know they will be back tomorrow and work another long day. The “Dirt Boyz” are responsible for maintaining the base by keeping the airfield, sidewalks and roads in usable condition at Barksdale Air Force Base.
  • 2019 BTF comes to an end

    More than 450 personnel and six B-52 Stratofortresses from Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, returned home following a short-term deployment to RAF Fairford, England, in support of U.S. Strategic Command’s Bomber Task Force in Europe, April 11, 2019. The BTF deployment enabled theater integration and training with joint partners, allied nations and other U.S. Air Force units, to further enhance bomber interoperability in the theater.

    Just like a car, the B-52 Stratofortress needs its oil changed, tires rotated and its engine looked at to keep it running and prevent future damage.
  • Trees for Troops brings the holidays home

    The 28th Force Support Squadron hosted a Trees for Troops event at outdoor recreation on Nov. 30, where Airmen and their Families were able to get a free tree for the holidays at Ellsworth Air Force Base.
  • CSP helps secure Airmen’s future

    Airmen – who are retiring or within six months of their enlistment’s end – can apply to take part in a career skills program, which allows them to receive on-the-job training with companies before they separate from the Air Force.
  • 8th AF commander tours Ellsworth

    After firing an M-240 Bravo machine gun, watching his aide-de-camp get taken down in a security forces K-9 demonstration, and addressing the men and women of Ellsworth Air Force Base in an all call assembly, Maj. Gen. James Dawkins Jr. experienced a little bit of everything during his visit here Nov. 13.
