U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Joshua Stephens, a 96th Bomb Squadron weapons systems operator, inspects 500-pound Mark 82 general purpose bombs in the bomb bay of a B-52H Stratofortress, Barksdale Air Force Base, La., May 17, 2015. The B-52 was one of two 2nd Bomb Wing aircraft to fly a non-stop, 14,000-mile round-trip sortie from the United States to U.S. Central Command’s area of operations in support of Exercise Eager Lion 2015. These training missions enable Air Force Global Strike Command airmen to integrate and train with U.S. Geographic Combatant Commands, allied nations and partner organizations to enhance interoperability and cooperation. U.S. Strategic Command relies on various task forces and partner organizations for the execution of its global strategic missions. Air Force Global Strike Command supports USSTRATCOM's global strike and strategic deterrence missions with its bomber capabilities to deter regional and strategic threats from adversaries. USSTRATCOM is one of nine DoD unified combatant commands and is charged with strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
