Heat shield counter-bore tool

The Heat Shield Counter-bore Tool was originally manufactured to support the Peacekeeper (PK) Missile System at Vandenberg Air Force Base and F.E. Warren AFB. After drawdown of the Peacekeeper weapons system, the counter-bore tool was returned to the depot. When the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile weapon system was upgraded to incorporate the ability to support the Safety Enhanced Re-entry Vehicle (SERV), it was determined that the counter-bore tool would be required on a very limited basis. The counter-bore tool is seldomly used, fewer than five times since 2008; however, all operational bases within AFGSC now have at least one counter-bore tool on hand.
