Barksdale warrior brings Southern cooking to Afghanistan
PANJSHIR PROVINCE, Afghanistan -- Tech. Sgt. Jeremy Louk, a native of Petal, Miss., deployed here from Barksdale Air Force Base, La., and Provincial Reconstruction Team Panjshir engineering superintendent of construction and development, mixes a bowl of 15 different spices and seasonings. The chicken, shrimp, lobster and crab meat all were lightly covered with the mix prior to entering the pot of gumbo. Fourteen of the spices were either on hand in the dining facility at Forward Operating Base Lion, or purchased on the local economy.
