2015 Year in review

The year 2015 was a year of great change, new improvements and firsts for the 90th Missile Wing and F.E. Warren Air Force Base as a whole.

The accomplishments of the Mighty Ninety ranged from establishing the first ever helicopter group in the Air Force to having the opportunity to launch two unarmed Minuteman III's from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. Here is a list of just the fraction of our achievements, improvements and changes over the year.

First Quarter

  • Defenders working in the missile field received new Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern uniform, also known as Multi-Cam.

  • The first colonel pulled alert at a launch control center since the mid-1990s.

  • Missileers take part in the first of two Glory Trips to Vandenberg AFB, where they had the opportunity to launch an unarmed Minuteman III.

  • 20th Air Force activated the first Air Force helicopter group which is headquartered on F.E. Warren AFB.

Second Quarter

  • Warren hosted a nuclear stakeholders meeting, to determine the health and direction of the nation's strategic forces.

  • Mighty Ninety Airmen came together for a dining out, a formal dinner enriched with historical traditions.

  • Col. Stephen Kravitsky, a missileer by trade, took command of the wing.

Third Quarter

  • Warren continued a tradition of community involvement with the city of Cheyenne during Cheyenne Frontier Days by volunteering in numerous events including marching during the kick-off parade in a formation with more than 200 Airmen.

  • The Global Strike Challenge returned after a one-year hiatus and included an “Iron Chef” competition between chefs for the first time, to determine who would represent the 90th MW. Other competitions included defenders, helicopter operations, missile operators and maintainers in intense competitions against others from across Global Strike Command.

  • The first-ever 20th Air Force Women’s Leadership Symposium was held on F.E. Warren. The mission of the symposium was to provide female Airmen professional development through mentorship, education and networking.

  • The 90th MW defenders tackled their annual Crow Creek Challenge, a competition to display the fitness and camaraderie between security forces personnel.

  • Mighty Ninety Airmen excelled in the GSC and brought home trophies for best security forces team, best electro-mechanical team, best ICBM Ops crew and best weapons system crew.

  • Airmen came together during a conference to write a new vision statement for the Wing: The Mighty Ninety, inspired by heritage, empowered by Airmen and driven by innovation. The world’s most trusted, dominant ICBM force.

 Fourth Quarter

  • The 90th Medical group improved the quality of life for its patients by adding Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the clinic.

  • Missileers from Warren got the opportunity to launch a second unarmed Minuteman III from Vandenberg AFB.

  • The 20th Air Force welcomed a new commander, Maj. Gen. Anthony Cotton, during a ceremony held on Warren.

Throughout the year, Mighty Ninety Airmen displayed a work ethic and produced an aura of excellence. However, 2015 is over and now the wing looks towards 2016 with our new vision to continue accomplishing one of the highest priorities of the Department of Defense: to defend America with the world’s premier, combat-ready ICBM force.
