In today's world, it can be difficult to stay up-to-date with multiple highly-fluid situations in all corners of the globe.

Air Force Global Strike Command's Deterrence and Assurance Working Group strives to remedy that by meeting regularly to discuss current events from around the world. In addition to group discussion, the DAWG often brings in guest speakers who are experts on particular regions or issues.

"We live in a very volatile, uncertain and complex world," said Lt. Gen. Stephen Wilson, AFGSC commander. "We truly value the wealth of knowledge the experts have in these matters."

The most recent meeting of the DAWG featured Dr. Kimberly Marten, a leading authority on Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin.

Past DAWG seminars have covered topics such as North Korea and featured speakers including former ambassadors and members of the Ploughshares Fund, a nuclear disarmament group.

"It's important for us to stay informed on things like this," Wilson said. "Having a better understanding of the world around us makes us more effective in our own mission."
