Jonathan Simmons Air Force Space Command Public Affairs PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Air Force Global Strike Command and Air Force Space Command announced the results of the HQ AFSPC and HQ AFGSC co-hosted Vigilant Eagle 2011 Operations Squadron Commander Candidate Selection Board July 7. This competitive board, chaired by the AFGSC vice commander and AFSPC vice commander, was held at the Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, June 7-8. The board reviewed records of 201 officers and selected 92 lieutenant colonels and lieutenant colonel selects to compete for projected vacancies across AFGSC, AFSPC, Air Education and Training Command, and National Reconnaissance Office units in calendar year 2011. All aspects of the officers' records and duty histories were considered as part of VE '11. This included demonstrated leadership, leadership potential and professional development. "All the officers competing for these outstanding squadron leadership opportunities were top notch," said Maj. Gen. Michael Basla, AFSPC vice commander. "Senior raters from throughout the Air Force nominated their best officers for Vigilant Eagle, and the board had the task of narrowing the list to these 92 candidates. My congratulations to all the officers selected by this board." Military Personnel Sections have forwarded the names of candidates to their senior raters for use in notifying officers of their selection as a space and missile squadron commander and wing chief of safety candidates.
