The commander of 20th Air Force visited F.E. Warren Monday as part of a familiarization tour of the three missile wings.

Maj. Gen. C. Donald Alston, and Chief Master Sgt. Tammy Elliott, 20th AF command chief, spoke with many Airmen across the base about the importance of their contribution to the Air Force's top priority.

"I couldn't be more excited to be here today," he said. "Deterrence, mission focus and individual commitment are obvious everywhere I've been in the 90th Missile Wing."

General Alston's tour included the 90th Security Forces Group headquarters and the opportunity to attend a squadron guard mount. The general said security forces represent the wing in a highly visible way, whether making the first impression at the gate or securing ICBMs across the missile complex.

"They, and other members of the 90th Missile Wing, convey a strong sense of confidence when they look you in the eye and talk to you," the general said.

"It's always an inspiration to get out with the Airmen, where the mission lives and breathes," Chief Elliott said. "My greatest desire is for the Airmen to be as confident in themselves as we are in them."

After guardmount, General Alston made his way to the base theater for a base-wide all-call. During the all-call, General Alston talked about continuing to strengthen the ICBM force and emphasized that competency and readiness in the nuclear enterprise always need to be nurtured.

The general also said the Air Force has broad capabilities that create strategic deterrence effects around the world.

"We are depending on every Airman for success," he explained.

"When Major General Alston says 'every Airman counts' it's not only a conviction of his faith in them, but an actual fact in our current environment," Chief Elliott said. "Our Airmen do more than provide deterrence as a capability. They are an integral part of nuclear deterrence for our nation. I couldn't be prouder."

"When you perform your job with precision and reliability, you contribute directly to deterrence," the general said. "And that level of performance contributes to trust and confidence of national leadership and the American people, assures our allies and sends a message to potential adversaries."

This was the first wing orientation visit by the new 20th AF commander. General Alston will visit Minot Air Force Base, N.D., and Malmstrom AFB, Mont., in the coming weeks.
