The commander of Air Force Global Strike Command visited members of the 90th Missile Wing on Friday reminding the Mighty Ninety that F.E. Warren's mission continues to be vital to national security.

Lt. Gen. Frank Klotz met with the Warren Chief's Group, visited a missile alert facility and spent time with Airmen at various work centers.
"You have an important and enduring mission," said General Klotz. "It's relevant today. And it will be relevant for a very long time to come."

90th Missile Wing Airmen and leadership highlighted unit contributions to the 'deter and assure' mission during the general's visit.

Among those who met the general were missile and helicopter operators, maintainers, facility managers, security forces and support staff. After a pre-departure missile alert crew briefing, the general flew to MAF A-01 on a UH-1N Huey helicopter, flown by Capt. Emily Ladd, 37th Helicopter Squadron.

"General Klotz impressed upon the crew the importance of helicopters in maintaining a security presence in the missile field, the significance of safety and the critical nature of developing judgement skills in the aircrew community," said Captain Ladd.

At each stop, the general remarked on the Mighty Ninety's contributions to national security and international stability.

"It was nice to hear from the top level that they see and understand what we do every day and the mission of deterrence is really important," said Capt. Elizabeth West, code controller, 90th Operations Support Squadron, wing codes flight.

"Although we aren't deployed overseas in the wars we are fighting today, what we do is just as important in support of our national defenses ... and without us, many of the other missions couldn't happen," she said.

Senior Airman Mark McKenna, 90th OSS code controller, agreed.

"We ensure the weapons systems on the field are safe and secure in support of the command which is responsible for ensuring nuclear deterrence that helps protect our country."

Also recognized by senior leaders for their contribution to the ICBM mission, were the food service professionals who prepare meals for alert crews.

"The missile crews are protecting our freedoms, so we have to make sure they're taken care of," said Tech. Sgt. Joshua Henning, a MAF chef with the 319th Missile Squadron. "It's a fulfilling job because I know I'm providing a service to other people who also have an important job to do."

"With every alert, every dispatch, every post you set the conditions that help deter potential adversaries and assure our allies and friends around the world," the general said. "You are doing your jobs extraordinarily well, and the Nation's senior leadership is very proud of you."
