Global Strike hosts first-ever spouses' orientation Published Aug. 9, 2010 By Air Force Global Strike Command Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Air Force Global Strike Command will hold its first-ever spouses' orientation Aug. 20 to welcome new Command Headquarters spouses to the area and familiarize them with the base. Spouses are invited to join Mrs. Nancy Klotz, wife of AFGSC Commander Lt. Gen. Frank Klotz, for a welcome orientation from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Airman and Family Readiness Center here. "All Command Headquarters spouses are invited to attend, whether they have been here since the Command was provisional, or have just arrived on station this month," said Capt. Hayley James, AFGSC Commander's Action Group action officer and spouses orientation point of contact. The orientation is the first in a series, scheduled to be held quarterly. Spouses of active-duty, Reserve, Guard and civilians within the headquarters are all eligible to attend, and free, on-site babysitting will be provided by teenage and spouse volunteers. Other goals of the orientation are to provide an avenue for spouses to socialize and begin to establish a spousal network within the Command, as well as to learn about what Barksdale and the local community have to offer, Captain James said. Scheduled briefings include: remarks from Command leadership and spouses, an AFGSC Command Briefing, an introduction to the AFGSC Spouses' Club, a briefing from the AFGSC Stryker Booster Club, and a briefing on the history of the AFGSC from the Command historian. The spouses will also sit in on a panel discussion from key Barksdale base support spokespeople and have the opportunity to ask questions, similar to the Right Start program for incoming Barksdale personnel.
