The Honorable Daniel B.Ginsberg, the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, visited Air Force Global Strike Command here Sept. 9-10, saying that every Airman in the Command can be "very proud of the dedication and skill" they bring to the fight every day.

Mr. Ginsberg said his goal in visiting the base was to see the challenges that AFGSC Airmen face in strengthening the nuclear enterprise.

"I really wanted to hear what it's like in our Airmen's daily lives, from the very top to the line maintainers - to hear what's going well, and some of the challenges they are facing," Mr. Ginsberg said. "It was really amazing to see the Airmen in action, and to see how close the Command is to [full operational capability]. They've really accomplished a lot in a very short period of time."

From a manpower perspective, Mr. Ginsberg said it is one of his goals to make sure that AFGSC has the right allocation of resources to fulfill its mission.

"The nuclear enterprise is a top priority in the Air Force, and as such, we've taken a lot of steps to bring in the right Airmen to Air Force Global Strike Command to ensure that we have the right focus," he said.

During his visit to Barksdale, Mr. Ginsberg visited a B-52 static display, attended a roundtable discussion at the AFGSC Headquarters and toured STARBASE Louisiana, a hands-on aviation and aerospace curriculum for area 5th grade students and their teachers. Mr. Ginsberg also visited the 2d Bomb Wing, the 917th Reserve Wing, received a tour of 8th Air Force's 608th Air Operations Center and had the opportunity to eat lunch with First Sergeants from across the base.

After visiting with AFGSC Airmen, Mr. Ginsberg said he was continually amazed by their dedication to get the job done despite demands on their time and resources.

"The men and women of the 2d Bomb Wing, the 917th Wing, Air Force Global Strike Command and 8th Air Force are getting the mission done in a way that's incredibly professional," he said. "Continue to do what you're doing, and never forget what your mission is, because America is really depending on you."
