Command announces first round of Global Strike Challenge scores

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. --  Global Strike Command announced the first round of winners during the Global Strike Challenge score posting event Nov. 17.

The score posting events connect the command's heritage and mission, while at the same time recognizing and celebrating the "best of the best" in technical and weapons system expertise in the bomber, missile and security forces areas.

Awards were as follows:

Bartsch Trophy for Best Electronic Counter Measures: 2d Operations Support Squadron, Barksdale AFB, La. (Crew: Capt. Johnathan Buie, Capt. Brandon Fischer, Capt. Michael Pontius, Capt. Edward Nichols and Capt. John Watson)

Tibbets Trophy for Best B-2 Operations Squadron: 13th Bomb Squadron, Whiteman AFB, Mo. (Crew: Maj. Matthew Newell and Capt. Daniel Knerl)

Linebacker Trophy for the Best B-52 Operations Squadron: 2d Operations Support Squadron, Barksdale AFB, La. (Crew: Capt. Johnathan Buie, Capt. Brandon Fischer, Capt. Michael Pontius, Capt. Edward Nichols and Capt. John Watson)

McMahon Trophy for Best ICBM Weapons System Crew: 741st Missile Squadron, Minot AFB, N.D. (Accepted by Capt. Joseph Hannigan and 1st Lt. Chad Porter)

Best M203 Shooter: Senior Airman James Doan, 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman AFB, Mo.

Best M240 Team: Senior Airman Dustin Taylor and Staff Sgt. Jeffery Tuckey, 341st Missile Wing, Malmstrom AFB, Mont.

Best M9/M4 Shooters: 1st place, Senior Airman Johnathan Byron, 28th Bomb Wing, Ellsworth AFB, S.D.; 2nd place, Airman 1st Class Warren Smith, 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman AFB, Mo.; 3rd Place-Tech. Sgt. Christopher Camara, 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman AFB, Mo.

Best ICBM SATCOM Maintenance Team: 91st Missile Wing, Minot AFB, N.D. (Senior Airman Ramiro Morin and Senior Airman Corey Woods)

Best ICBM Electro-Mechanical Team: 90th Missile Wing, F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. (Staff Sgt. Ian Johnston and Senior Airman John Thompson)

Best Bomber Nuclear Load Team: 5th Bomb Wing, Minot AFB, N.D. (Tech. Sgt. Brenton Sampson, Senior Airman Jesse Rushing, Senior Airman John Bumbalough and Senior Airman Derek Turner)

Best Bomber Crew Chief Team: 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman AFB, Mo. (Staff Sgt. Jacob Westad and Staff Sgt. Eric Hinckley)

Best Security Forces Firing Team: 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman AFB, Mo. (Tech. Sgt. Roy Chavez, Tech. Sgt. Christopher Camara, Staff Sgt. Bendele Brandon, Senior Airman Chung Richmond, Senior Airman James Doan, Airman 1st Class Warren Smith)

Best ICBM Emergency War Order Crew: 490th Missile Squadron, Malmstrom AFB, Mont. (Capt. Kevin Hullihan and 1st Lt. Brian Marlow)

Global Strike Command will announce more winners at tonight's score posting, which will include presentations of the Fairchild Trophy, awarded to the top bomber unit, and the Blanchard Trophy, given to the top missile unit in the competition.
