Malmstrom wing commander selected for promotion to brigadier general Published Dec. 17, 2010 MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. -- Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced Dec. 14 that the President has made nominations for 41 colonels to be promoted to the rank of brigadier general. Among those nominated is Col. Anthony J. Cotton, current 341st Missile Wing commander. As the commander, Colonel Cotton is responsible for the operation, maintenance and security of the intercontinental ballistic missile force in central Montana. The wing provides deterrence for the United States by operating a force comprised of 4,000 personnel and 150 Minuteman III ICBMs located throughout a 13,800 square-mile complex. Colonel Cotton entered the Air Force through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in May 1986. He started his career as a missile officer at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. and has assumed various positions working with space and missiles since. He arrived at Malmstrom in July 2009 as the vice commander and assumed command of the 341st Missile Wing in May 2010.
