The 2010 Air Force Global Strike Command Medical Service awards ceremony took place here Dec. 2 presenting the 5th Medical Group with 35 team and individual recognitions.

Col. Mark A. Koeniger, AFGSC surgeon general, personally presented recipients with their awards during the ceremony, expressing his thoughts regarding their overall achievements.

"Selection as an AFGSC winner is a testament to the exceptional achievements, professionalism and dedication of the individual, the team and leadership," said Colonel Koeniger.

Two hundred thirty-nine award packages were submitted among AFGSC medical treatment facilities representing outstanding Airmen and team award winners.

"I am extremely proud of the men and women of the 5th MDG for all their accomplishments over the past year," noted Col. Karlan B. Hoggan, 5th MDG commander.

He touted the award winners for excelling despite the heavy workloads they've encountered throughout the year.

"Having been honored for hard work and attention to detail is a credit to all medics," the colonel continued. "This is despite the complexity of Minot's numerous missions, the ops tempo Minot endures throughout the year, the heavy inspection schedule, the expeditionary tasking requirements we support and the sheer size of the PRP [Personnel Reliability Program] mission at Minot."

Chief Master Sgt. Patrick Scheuer, 5th MDG superintendent, added he attributes the success of the numerous recipients to the daily commitment of the men and women of the 5th MDG to provide exceptional medical care for Team Minot's Airmen, their families and all other beneficiaries.

"It's the same commitment that compels our medics to ensure Team Minot's Airmen are medically ready to meet and succeed their nuclear deterrence mission as well as be ready to deploy," the chief said. "The sheer number of awards our medics won leaves no doubt the 5th MDG professionals truly care about what they do and how they feel about accomplishing the mission."

Chief Scheuer noted the award winners will go on to compete at the Air Force wide level and has high hopes for their success.

"The Air Force Medical Service has many exceptional performers who support diverse missions, so the competition will be extremely tough," the chief continued. "I'm confident the mighty medics representing the 5th MDG at the Air Force-level will stack-up well with the competition."

One award winner highlight involved the Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight. The flight had winners in the various categories including the AFGSC Team Award winner.

"We have had numerous situations over the last year that have challenged us," said Maj. Joseph Silvers, Bioenvironmental Engineering flight commander. "The quality of our people is tremendous."

Colonel Hoggan also praised the medical staff on their every day work.

The colonel said, "Medics serve the Air Force and their country by doing all we can to support the missions and people of Team Minot to be their best every day."
