Air Force Global Strike Command names top stories of 2010

Air Force Global Strike Command recently named the top five stories published within the Command for 2010.

The command chose stories based on importance to Global Strike Command during its inaugural year. Judges evaluated the stories based on how important the topic was and how well the story communicated command priorities.

The top five Air Force Global Strike Command stories are:

1. "New Command Reaches Full Operational Capability," posted Sept. 30, announces Air Force Global Strike Command's declaration to be at Full Operational Capability on schedule, and less than 14 months after its initial activation as a command.

2. "Under Secretary's visit underscores importance of nuclear mission," posted May 25, highlights the Honorable Erin C. Conaton's visit to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., less than three months after becoming Under Secretary of the Air Force, for a first hand view of Air Force Global Strike Command.

3. "Global Strike Command builds partnership with French," posted Dec. 1, references the French Strategic Air Forces' top officer, Lt. Gen. Paul Fouilland's visit to Air Force Global Strike Command as part of a continuing dialogue between the two nations' strategic air forces.

4. "Under Secretary Praises AFGSC at Symposium," posted Nov. 19, featured the Undersecretary of the Air Force Erin C. Conaton's message emphasizing the importance of the nuclear and global strike mission to the United States.

5. "STRATCOM commander: 'No higher calling' than nuclear mission," posted Dec. 2, references the commander of U.S. Strategic Command's visit to all Air Force Global Strike Command bases, during which he told Airmen "there is no higher calling" than the nuclear deterrence mission.
