Orientation sets Global Strike spouses up for success Published March 7, 2011 By Megan Meyer Air Force Global Strike Command Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Spouses of Headquarters Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen gathered here Feb. 25 for an orientation to the command, the base and the local area. Fifteen spouses were hosted by Mrs. Julie Kowalski, who said the command "strives to make people feel welcome." One participant said she received better information during the 3-hour orientation than she has received over her family's entire career with the Air Force. "As a command Headquarters that's still growing, it is important for our spouses to have a jumping-off point in a new environment," Mrs. Kowalski said. Orientations provide information on resources available through the command and also connect spouses to create a network of people which they can depend on, Mrs. Kowalski said. AFGSC will host similar one-day orientations every three months, so it's never too late to get connected, she said. Attendees don't need to be recently arrived to participate. Experts from various base activities sat down with the spouses to explain the wide range of resources available to them. Also discussed was the importance of the Global Strike Command mission and the command's heritage. The Bossier and Shreveport Chambers of Commerce also sent speakers for a panel discussion about local activities.
