The commander of Air Force Global Strike Command toured F. E. Warren on March 14 through March 17 as part of base familiarization visits to all of the bases under his command.

The purpose of this visit was to familiarize Lt. Gen. Jim Kowalski and his wife Julie with Warren's deterrence operations.

"Having the opportunity to show our MAJCOM commander the nuts and bolts of this blue-collar mission was a thrill," said Col. Greg Tims, 90th Missile Wing commander. "I've said it time and time again, we are a unit with true character and toughness. I'm confident General Kowalski walked away from here witnessing the same sense."

While here, General Kowalski received an in-depth look at how Warren operates.

On March 14, the general traveled to Camp Guernsey, Wyo., where he visited the 90th Ground Combat Training Squadron and received a first-hand familiarization of the unit's security forces and pre-deployment combat skills training capabilities.

On the following day, General Kowalski went to Missile Alert Facility Alpha-01 and Launch Facility Delta-06, where he met with missile operations, operations support, security forces and maintenance personnel.

Upon returning from the missile field, General Kowalski toured Warren's 37th Helicopter Squadron.

On the final day of his tour, the general met with Warren's chief master sergeants, was given a briefing about the types of vehicles defenders use and toured the 90th Medical Group.

During the three-day tour, Mrs. Kowalski also visited with several agencies. Her time here focused on the needs of the families and building resiliency.

Her tour started with visiting MAF A-01 on March 14, where she was briefed on the deterrence mission, as well as the different missile field careers.

She also visited Warren's Health and Wellness Center, the base library and Chapel Activities Center, highlighting only a few of Warren's many resiliency agencies and programs.

On March 15, Mrs. Kowalski participated in a spouse circuit training class, where she had an opportunity to meet with base spouses and their children. Additionally, she toured the newly renovated Airmen dormitories and "The Oasis," a place where Airmen can go to relax and participate in positive morale building events and activities.

That same day, Mrs. Kowalski visited the maintenance training launch facility and the base museum, where she was briefed on Warren's heritage, ICBM weapon systems and the historical relationship with the local community.

During her final day at Warren, Mrs. Kowalski visited to the Airmen's Attic, Fall Hall Community Center and then toured base housing where she learned about the future base housing privatization effort.

"I cannot say enough how delightful it was to have General and Mrs. Kowalski visit us," Colonel Tims said.

Once they completed with their respective tours, the general and his wife returned to AFGSC headquarters located at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, La.
