Minot's 91st Security Forces Group holds tryouts for Global Strike Challenge

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The 91st Security Forces Group held tryouts Sept. 21 at the McAdoo Sports and Fitness Center here for a chance to represent their wing in the second annual Global Strike Challenge.

The GSC is a competition where Air Force Intercontinental Ballistic Missile and bomber forces compete against one another to be recognized as the best at what they do in the command. The challenge will be held at Barksdale AFB, La.

Master Sgt. Duke McDuffie, 91st Security Forces Group tactical response force member, said the tryouts allowed Airmen an opportunity to prove why they should be selected to represent the 91st SFG.

"During the tryouts, these Airmen were able to display the training they have received to date and sharpen their security forces skill-set," said McDuffie. "It also served as a good test of what the Airmen already know and showed them what they could possibly improve on."

Airmen participating in the tryouts completed a variety of mental and physical events. The skill-sets being evaluated were their knowledge of tactical maneuvers as a team and as individuals, weapons familiarity and overall job knowledge.

The tasks required for completion included a lot of physical fitness work, testing their overall body endurance in different scenarios such as response capabilities in small unit and individual tactic maneuvers.

"We hope that the Airmen selected to compete come home victorious, proving that Minot is in the best in the nuclear fight," said McDuffie.

Names for the 91st SFG Airmen selected for Global Strike Challenge are scheduled to be released at a later time.

The first Global Strike Challenge took place at Barksdale AFB, La., in Nov. 2010, following the stand up of the new major command on Dec. 1, 2009.

Members from the 91st SFG and 5th Security Forces Squadron will compete at the Global Strike Challenge beginning Nov. 3-10 at Barksdale AFB, La. The challenge is scheduled to end with a score posting event and an announcement of the winners from Air Force Global Strike Command Headquarters.
