Last week, the Air Force Association's national secretary, a two-time AFA Presidential Citation recipient, visited 20th Air Force and the Mighty Ninety as part of an ICBM familiarization tour.

Even though this was the first time the near 20-year AFA member visited Air Force Global Strike Command's premier ICBM wing, Joan Sell has spent the majority of her time in the Rocky Mountain Region -- an area comprised of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming -- where she helped in providing program development direction for Air Force Space Command, NORAD, U.S. Northern Command, and Space and Missile Systems Center.

While Sell's dedication to the AFA spans nearly a quarter of a century, her dedication in the aerospace industry spans 40 years, meaning Sell has been an active voice for the Air Force and its nuclear components for more than 50 years. Sell was accompanied by Jeri Andrews who currently serves as the Colorado State Air Force Association vice president for Plans and Development.

"We are always honored by the great support from the AFA," said Col. George Farfour, 90th Missile Wing vice commander. "Being able to show off the outstanding personnel of the Mighty Ninety is one of the great parts of my job. However, having Ms. Sell and Ms. Andrews, who have committed so many years to further the mission and people of the Air Force, ask to visit F. E. Warren and see its mission in action is an extraordinary honor."

Her first day here, Sell had an office call with Maj. Gen. C. Donald Alston, 20th AF commander; and then met with Warren's Spouses' Club in the Fall Hall Community Center.

During the second day of Sell's visit, she attended a pre-departure briefing and a tour of Uniform-02 -- one of the on-base maintenance training facilities -- prior to departing to Missile Alert Facility Alpha-01.

While at the MAF, Sell was treated to mission briefs from defenders, maintainers and operators. From there, Sell returned to Warren where she visited the base's ICBM Heritage Museum before having an office call with the vice wing commander.

The AFA is an independent, nonprofit, civilian education organization that promotes public understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in national security. Its roots come from the era of General of the Air Force Henry H. "Hap" Arnold.

Since being established in 1946, the AFA has continued to work to support Air Force people and strengthen America's aerospace power to help maintain national security and preserving world peace.
