Lt. Gen. Jim Kowalski, commander of Air Force Global Strike Command, visited Warren on Oct. 27 and 28.

The commander toured the base and met with Warren's senior leadership. He also had a chance to interact with some of Warren's noncommissioned officers and Airmen.

During breakfast with Kowalski, NCOs from each group had the opportunity to ask their major command commander questions pertaining to their careers, Air Force Global Strike Command and the Air Force.

"It was a great opportunity to hear the general's perspective on leadership, and one thing he said really inspired me," said Staff Sgt. Jennifer Sherman, 90th Missile Wing executive assistant to the command chief. "He reminded us that even after we leave the service, our legacy will continue through others we have trained, and to withhold our knowledge and experiences from our fellow Airmen would be a great disservice to our country."

Kowalski also served as the guest speaker for the Air Force Association Cowboy Chapter 357 Anniversary Banquet held in the Holiday Inn, Cheyenne, Wyo., Oct. 28.

In his remarks, Kowalski commented on the community's close relationship with the military here.

"This is a community that has consistently and historically supported Fort D. A. Russell, F. E. Warren, 20th Air Force, the 90th Missile Wing and [Air Force] Global Strike Command," Kowalski said. "There is a long and invaluable relationship that endures here, and with that support, the units here have excelled at their mission."

Irene Johnigan, AFA Cowboy Chapter 357 president, expressed the community's support for Warren members in her remarks as well.

"It is truly an honor for us to honor our young people in blue, who give every day so we can enjoy our freedoms," Johnigan said.

Kowalski also spoke about the importance of nuclear deterrence in today's changing world, and the roles that members of Warren and the community play in the deterrence mission.

"No other force creates in the minds of potential adversaries the uncertainty needed to deter conventional conflict, or the fear needed to deter nuclear conflict," Kowalski said. "Twentieth Air Force, the 90th Missile Wing and the city of Cheyenne are at the heart of that mission today."
