More than 100 Airmen attended a Dec. 1, 2011, ceremony re-designating the 15th Munitions Squadron as the 90th Munitions Squadron at F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo.

The 15th MUNS, activated Aug. 4, 2009, has been a tenant unit of the 90th Missile Wing since its activation.

"The 90th MUNS has been a valued member of our Mighty Ninety team as a tenant unit," said Col. Christopher Coffelt, 90th MW commander. "It only makes sense to officially recognize their new designation under the 90th Maintenance Group."

In April, Air Force officials announced plans to transfer munitions squadrons responsible for nuclear mission support from Air Force Material Command to Air Force Global Strike Command. The realignment allows an enhanced unity of command, as well as, increased efficiencies and standardized processes and policies.

"This is another important step for the reinvigoration of the nuclear enterprise," said Col. Don Adams, 90th MXG commander. "It only makes sense to bring the nuclear munitions under the major command that operates them every day."

Adams also expressed his commitment to the Airmen of the 90th MUNS, and his confidence in their commander, Maj. Jay Moret.

"Our commitment to excellence and by-the-book, zero-deficiencies culture will continue," Moret said. "We've always felt like a part of the Mighty Ninety. Despite any trials we've had to go through, the 90th MW has always stood beside us."
