F.E. Warren's fitness facilities renovated to improve fitness experience Published Dec. 9, 2011 By Senior Airman Mike Tryon 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- F.E. Warren Air Force Base's fitness facilities, Freedom and Independence halls, have received roughly $600,000 in renovations, upgrades and improvements throughout 2011 as a way to improve patrons' fitness experiences. Renovations include new locker rooms for Independence Hall; an outdoor exercise pad at Freedom Hall; refinished hardwood floors for both facilities; new showers and a sauna for the men's locker room in Freedom Hall; several new pieces of cardio equipment; and new weight equipment. "The Air Force funded about $50,000 for new stationary bicycles and nearly $200,000 to replace the weight equipment," said Bonnie Schwartzkopf, 90th Force Support Squadron fitness and sports program manager. "We've had a flood of compliments on our new equipment." Along with the upgrades and renovations, the fitness center staff updated the incentive programs offered to increase and achieve individual fitness goals. Some of the incentive programs include the upcoming second annual Warren Fitness Challenge; Xtreme Challenge, ran by the 90th FSS; Frontiercade, led by marketing and ran by the Fall Hall Community Center and fitness; and five different "Get Fit" incentive programs. The Get Fit program is multi-tiered and awards prizes for completing varying levels of completion in the bench press, running, hiking, walking and cycling. "Get Fit programs are run on the honor system," said Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Romero, 90th FSS special events coordinator. "Members fill out a yellow card with their name, which program they're doing and what they accomplished during their fitness session. "The nice thing about these programs is there isn't any time constraint to complete all six levels," she said. Other programs offered at the fitness centers include massage therapy, drop-in volleyball and Wednesday night soccer. A family workout room, which includes a play area for children, with cardiovascular machines and free weights, is also available. Freedom Hall offers group aerobics, such as Zumba and spinning. "Our goal is to provide a little something for everybody - regardless of their current fitness level," Schwartzkopf said. "We hope we can offer them the best possible experience while they establish, maintain and exceed their fitness goals - whether it's individually or in a group setting."
