While some members of the Mighty Ninety gathered at the Argonne Parade Field Aug. 24 to compete in squadron sports during Frontiercade, other members started the day's events a little earlier.

While Warren hosts five and 10k races throughout the year, this year's Frontiercade offered Warren members a chance to test their endurance in the first ever Air Force Global Strike Command Striker Life Half Marathon.

More than 20 volunteers assisted with the event according to Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Romero, 90th Force Support Squadron special events coordinator.

The 90th Civil Engineer Squadron helped set up the course, and members from the 90th Medical Group provided support for injuries, Romero added.

Volunteers also assisted with water and aide stations, while others gave directions to runners as course marshals.

Airman 1st Class Mark Currell, 319th Missile Squadron chef, was the top finisher, crossing the line at 1:16.21.

"I thought it was a really fun course," Currell said. "It was fast and rolling and I really enjoyed the fact that they combined it with the five and 10k courses. It really pumps you up to run with so many other competitors, even if they weren't running the same race."

Currell also said he thought the Striker Life Half Marathon was a great way to prepare for the upcoming Air Force Marathon at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

"The altitude is very different and I've never run this course," Currell added. "It's hard to tell what a good time is by comparison in that respect, but I feel really good about this result going into the full marathon next month."

The overall top finisher in the female race was Col. Bridget Gregory, 90th Medical Group commander, coming in at a final time of 1:58.17.

Gregory also commented on the course and those volunteering their time to help support the race.

"It was a great course with outstanding course marshals and perfectly staged water stations," Gregory said. "AFGSC and Warren can be proud of this event and that it was without incident - no one harmed.

"Hopefully there will be many more to follow," she added.

Finishing first in the relay division was a team representing the 90th Operations Group, comprised of Capt. Peter Dobbins, 1st Lt. Austin Winner, 1st Lt. Jeffery Rees, and 2nd Lt. Alex Foos, all from the 320th Missile Squadron.

The four-man team, officially representing the 90th OG, crossed the line at 1:35.49.

Winners of the men's and women's races, in all age groups earned t-shirts, medals, trophies and gift cards.

While there was no entry fee, the first 200 competitors to register received a free moisture-wicking Striker Life t-shirt.
