More than 42,000 pounds of rice, donated by Children's Lifeline Foundation, was loaded onto a KC-10 Extender to be transported to Port au Prince, Haiti Feb. 13

Airmen from the 2nd Logistics Readiness Squadron loaded six pallets onto a Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. aircraft headed first to Charleston AFB, S.C. then on to its final destination where it will feed 8,500 children a day.

"We partnered with the Denton Program once again to assist in relief efforts to the people of Haiti," said Staff Sgt. Brue Toney, 2 LRS air terminal operations NCO. "This is our first movement of the year, and we are happy to assist those less fortunate. It shows that we haven't forgotten about the disaster that happened in 2010."

The Denton Program permits DOD to provide transportation of privately-donated humanitarian assistance cargo to foreign countries using military transportation on space-available basis. This program is jointly administered by the U.S. Agency for International Development, Department of State and Department of Defense.

Last year, Team Barksdale moved more than 96,000 pounds of rice, beans and flour to the children of Haiti.

"Humanitarian relief like this operation is important. It gives other nations a chance to get to know our country," said Toney.

The rice was delivered to Barksdale AFB Feb. 5 and is scheduled to arrive in Port au Prince by Feb. 15.
