Barksdale is one of several installations selected to receive a new, full-time civilian position of Community Support Coordinator, which acts as the focal point for all installation resiliency programs.

Retired Chief Master Sgt. Jeff Maiette was selected to spearhead the initiative here, managing several programs designed to develop the four pillars of Comprehensive Airman Fitness: Mental, physical, social and spiritual.

"I see this as a combination of a lot of the jobs I had during my time in the Air Force," said Maiette. "Being a shirt and a chief, it gives me the opportunity to go out and make a difference with people."

The position was created as a result of investigations stemming from the 2009 massacre at Fort Hood, Texas.

"One of the recommendations made back to the Air Force was to create a full-time position that would manage the Community Action Information Board for the wing commander," said Maiette. "Historically, the CAIB has always been a second, third or fourth additional duty for someone."

According to Maiette, making it a full-time position will allow him to dedicate the time and attention the program needs to be successful.

Another result of the CSC initiative is the resilience trainer program, which will train select personnel at the unit levels. Having these Resilience Training Assistants will give commanders and first sergeants access to in-house resiliency experts for events such as Wingman Day.

Air Force senior leaders are committed to providing the best possible quality of life for our people, and this new position means increased attention to the issues which affect the morale and readiness of Team Barksdale, said Maiette.
