Team Minot defenders joined together June 5-9, 2023 at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. to compete in competitions and honor past and present law enforcement officers in honor of National Police Week.

National Police Week is a nationally recognized event that allows law enforcement members and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

“It’s a time to acknowledge the strength and courage required to wear the badge and the important role law enforcement plays in ensuring public safety,” said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Gerard Garbutt, 5th Security Forces Squadron integrated defense section chief.

The week was filled with various events between Minot defenders and local law enforcement. The events included a softball tournament, a volleyball tournament, and a Battle of the Badges competition, pitting law enforcement against Minot Airmen and City of Minot Firemen.

“Police Week reminds me to reflect on the sacrifices others have made in order to make communities and the world safer,” said Roman-Rivera. “We represent the few that run towards evil wherever, and whoever they may be.”

Police Week concluded June 9, 2023 with a closing ceremony wrapping up the week's events. While the week was filled with competitions and festivities, Master Sergeant Yamil Roman-Rivera, 5th SFS flight chief and guest speaker for National Police Week, reminded the crowd and participants what this week really stands for.
