The 90th Missile Wing hosted East High School students and faculty Feb. 24, 2023, at F.E. Warren Air Force Base. This tour was to inform the community about the primary mission of the installation.

The tour started off with a mission brief given by Col. John Hundley, 90 MW vice commander, mirroring what new Airmen to the base would receive. The brief allowed the school to get integrated with the mission and ask questions about the force.

“I think it is important to spread awareness about what we do as missileers and Air Force members,” said Capt. Torre Johnson, project officer for the event and I know when I was in high school, I didn't really know anything about the military and what they did. So I think it's cool to instill pride in what we do here, in their hometown.”

The wing’s capabilities were seen up-close after their baseline brief. The tour continued at the Missile Procedures Trainer, a simulated launch control capsule and the missile maintenance training facility, U-01.

“In class they are getting out of the World War II unit and are now learning about the Cold War,” said Jessica Johnson, East High School geography and history teacher. “This allows them to learn in an immersive way and get an idea of the job for parents who work on base. It allows the students to relate to their friends who are military kids, their teachers who are military spouses, or anybody who's connected to the military.”

Making connections like this is another way the Mighty Ninety engages with the community and supports recruiting goals for the Air Force. Whether these students aspire to be potential Missileers, the future of the nation’s armed forces depends on the inspired generation of today.
