AFGSC welcomes new deputy commander

Air Force Global Strike Command welcomed Lt. Gen. Anthony Cotton as the new deputy commander of Air Force Global Strike Command and Air Forces Strategic-Air, U.S. Strategic Command, Oct. 28.

Air Force Global Strike Command is responsible for providing strategic deterrence, global strike capability and combat support to USSTRATCOM as well as other geographic combatant commands. The command is comprised of more than 33,700 Airmen operating at two numbered air forces; 11 active-duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve wings; the Joint Global Strike Operations Center; and the Air Force Nuclear Command, Control and Communications Center.

Additionally, AFGSC assets and weapons systems include all U.S. Air Force intercontinental ballistic missiles and bomber aircraft, UH-1N helicopters and its replacement the MH-139A, E-4B National Airborne Operations Center aircraft and the Air Force NC3 weapons system.

Cotton comes to the command from Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, where he was the commander and president. While there, he was responsible for graduating more than 50,000 resident and 120,000 non-resident officers, enlisted and civilian personnel each year.

Prior to being the AU commander at Maxwell AFB, Cotton served as the commander of 20th Air Force at F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming.
