Yancy Mailes, Command Historian, and Shawn Bohannon, Command Archivist, show off a chest containing “bomb com” cups awarded to various Strategic Air Command wings for their annual competition. Several of the cups are displayed in front of the chest. The new Global Strike Research Facility will house these artifacts as well as command archives for both SAC and AFGSC. Air Force Global Strike’s Office of the Command Historian held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Global Strike Research Facility, May 18, at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. The new facility improves archival storage, research capabilities and other forms of support the history office provides to the command.

Twenty-five years after Operation Senior Surprise, aka “Secret Squirrel”, the aircrew members that kicked off Operation Desert Storm reunited on Barksdale Air Force Base, La. on Jan. 15, 2016. A B-1B Lancer that achieved rotational milestones is scheduled to leave Al Udeid Air Base soon for a six-month hiatus for aircraft modifications stateside. The B-1 has been under the operational support of the 379th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron,and has set records during the July-January rotation with military members from the 307th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Unit, stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota.
