F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- The 90th Ground Combat Training Squadron hosted convoy teams from across the three missile wings during the Nuclear Convoy Course at Camp Guernsey, Wyoming, March 20 to April 7, 2023.
“The students come here and they basically do their normal day-to-day job of the convoys, but as an exercise. We’ll give them a variety of different scenarios and practice how to transport that convoy and safely move that resource,” said Staff Sgt. Jordan Valentine, cadre at 90 GCTS.
The NCC is one component of a larger annual convoy training and assessment cycle within 20th Air Force. As a part of a larger effort to redesign this cycle, the week-long NCC has recently been restructured to provide a stronger foundational education.
“NCC now incorporates different levels of training in a tiered approach with tracks aimed at leaders and Airmen to broaden their horizons,” said Master Sgt. Clayton Staub, 20 AF Tactical Response Force and Convoy Response Force program coordinator.
Defenders will build upon skills learned at NCC through home station training. Training effectiveness will then be assessed at ARROW (Advanced Recapture Recovery Operational Warfighter), which is set to replace Road Warrior in the fall of 2023.
“ARROW will test this training and the teams’ tactics with a much heavier focus on after action reports and lessons learned than Road Warrior, thereby providing a more robust and capable convoy team,” Staub explained.
