Mission Description
The 625th Strategic Operations Squadron (STOS) has three unique flights that serve critical roles in the squadron’s mission: Weapons and Tactics (OSK), Airborne Launch Control System (ALCS), and Strategic Automated Command & Control System (SACCS).
The Weapons and Tactics flight, working closely with the USSTRATCOM and JFCC-GS, maintains current and accurate targeting for the Nation’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) fleet. The Weapons and Tactics flight also analyzes foreign ballistic missiles and provides threat information to the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System. Finally, they develop, document, verify and maintain ICBM targeting software programs and operating procedures required for daily operations.
The Airborne Launch Control System flight provides training and combat forces for two crew positions on board the Navy’s E-6B Mercury Strategic Command Airborne Command Post aircraft (ABNCP). Flying as integral members of the battle staff, the crewmembers, using on-board equipment, provide a survivable means to launch the Nation’s ICBM force.
The Strategic Automated Command & Control System flight serves as the primary point of contact and user advocate for the SACCS network. They are responsible for setting up and managing emergency action message dissemination systems in use at bomber, tanker, ICBM, reconnaissance, and headquarters bases around the world.

Unit History
The squadron was first activated at Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Nebraska, on April 15, 1996 as the 625th Missile Operations Flight (MOF) and reported to Air Force Space Command. The squadron’s mission was to verify missile targeting, train airborne launch control system crews, and ensure operational capability of strategic communications networks between launch control centers and national leadership were operational.
The 625th Missile Operations flight was re-designated the 625th Strategic Operations Squadron on June 14, 2007. On December 1, 2009, Air Force Global Strike Command took control of strategic operations from Air Force Space Command, and the 625 STOS, transitioned to Air Force Global Strike Command.
Emblem Significance
Three red and gold lines with red arrow heads symbolize three mission areas and flights: Weapons and Tactics flight, Airborne Launch Control System flight and Strategic Automated Command and Control System flight. The world globe represents the global-spanning nature of the missions. The dark sky-blue field represents the atmospheric operating medium while the ultramarine/reflex-blue field represents the space operating medium.
The three white stars represent the squadron’s commitment to the ever vigilant forces at three missile wings: F.E. Warren, Malmstrom, and Minot AFBs. The gold represents honor and wisdom carried in supporting 20th AF, Air Force Global Strike Command and United States Strategic Command. The red represent boldness, hardiness, liberty, patriotism, strength, and valor in unit character. The white represents the maturity and perfection demanded to accomplish every mission. The blue background represents sky, constancy, devotion, loyalty, and thought that contribute to the defense of the nation.
