AFGSC 2023 Women's Leadership Symposium

Mission

The Women’s Leadership Symposium's mission is to encourage women to be deliberate in their decisions, actions, and passions and to empower all Strikers to lead boldly.

 

Theme

“Be Bold”: Speak out, challenge, lead without fear, take risks despite failure, be limitless, innovative, and transformational…be BOLD and be YOU!

 

Objectives

  • Personally define BOLD
  • Empower Strikers to make BOLD-informed decisions
  • Highlight how to navigate the workplace with a BOLD mentality
  • Obtain actionable tools to lead BOLDLY & to be a BOLD wingman for others

Guest Speakers

CMSAF JoAnne S. Bass represents the highest enlisted level of leadership, and as such, provides direction for the enlisted force and represents their interests, as appropriate, to the American public and to those in all levels of government. She serves as the personal adviser to the Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Air Force on all issues regarding the welfare, readiness, morale, and proper utilization and progress of more than 600,000 Total Force Airmen. Chief Bass is the 19th chief master sergeant appointed to the highest noncommissioned officer position.
Jessica Lynch is a former United States Army soldier who served in the 2003 invasion of Iraq by U.S. and allied forces. On March 23, 2003, Private First Class Lynch's convoy was ambushed by Iraqi forces during the Battle of Nasiriyah. Lynch was seriously injured and captured. Her subsequent recovery by U.S. Special Operations Forces was the first successful rescue of an American prisoner of war since Vietnam and the first ever of a woman. Jessica has been awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Prisoner of War medals. Jessica is a mother, an educator, and a motivational speaker.
Tanya Biank is an author and journalist. Her latest book, Undaunted: The Real Story of America's Servicewomen in Today's Military is available in hardcover and paperback. Her book, Army Wives: The Unwritten Code of Military Marriage was the basis for Lifetime’s hit TV series, ARMY WIVES. Tanya served as a consultant for the show, which was cable’s No.1-rated drama series among women and one of the five longest-running drama series in basic cable history.
