Here's how you know

Please follow these steps to use the new VPN client:

1. Establish a functional internet connection (wireless or wired) outside the Air Force network.
2. Double-click on the VPN client icon (USAF VPN Client) on the desktop or select through the start menu.
3. Click “Connect” button to automatically start a VPN connection.
4. The client will display a DoD monitored resource message. Click ‘Acknowledge’ to proceed.
5. Choose the 16-digit PIV Auth “Authentication” Certificate and enter PIN to establish the VPN session (users may have to select “More Choices” and should NOT select the “DoD Email” Certificate).
6. After the VPN session is established, the VPN will minimize to the system tray.

To close the new VPN client follow these steps:

7. Find the VPN client in the system tray (usually at the bottom of the screen, next to the clock). Hovering a mouse over the icon will display ‘USAF VPN Client’ along with the current VPN address.
8. Right-click for a pop-up menu.
9. Click ‘Disconnect’ to close the VPN connection
10. Clicking the ‘X’ at any time will minimize the client to the system tray.
11. Right-clicking the system tray icon and clicking ‘Exit’ will shut down the client.
 

16 digit PIV-Authentication migration is not scheduled to take place until Wednesday MAR 18th, affecting current connection attempts to the new VPN client. Until then, please use attached instructions for 10 digit VPN connecting.

Outlook Web Access (OWA): For checking email from home, connecting through VPN is not recommended. Please use OWA via the home access links provided below.
