Four Airmen assigned to the 2nd Munitions Cruise Missile Maintenance Flight took part in the first event of the Air Force Global Strike Challenge at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, June 12, 2017.

The challenge is intended to motivate and teach Airmen the importance of doing their job quickly and accurately.

The Airmen were all part of the same flight before being selected for the completion team and representing their unit. The team is known for having a good team dynamic which could be what leads them to success.

“We were team-driven,” said Staff Sgt. Joseph Travers, a missile and space electronic systems technician. “We have a lot of comradery.”

The team said they enjoyed the competition but learned a lot from it as well.

“I learned patience from this experience,” said Senior Airman Gregory Scott, a missile and space electronic systems technician. “I learned patience and the ability to adapt.”

Scott said that these two things came into play when the inspectors changed things throughout the tournament, which threw them off at first.

“We rely heavily on the flightline so we have to be able to adapt,” said Senior Airman Darion Stephan, a missile and space electronic systems technician. “Being able to adapt helped us prepare for the competition since things changed last minute.”

Their bay chief, Tech. Sgt. Robert Hoffman, learned a lot from the experience as well.

“I learned how to better prepare teams for upcoming events, how to better motivate the team and stay proficient,” said Hoffman.

Other bases and teams will be competing in various maintenance events through June and July.
