Laramie 911 dispatches out of MDG

The Warren Medical Clinic became headquarters for the Laramie County 911 call center on April 9 and 12 due to a phone system crash at its downtown location.

Laramie County and Warren have had an agreement since 2006 for all 911 calls to forward to the clinic's Medical Control Center when the county's phone lines have problems.

"This agreement has worked very well for the county," said Glen Crumpton, Director of Laramie County Combined County Center.

Mr. Crumpton said the MCC at Warren is critical to his call center's operations because his dispatchers can get to the base in a matter of minutes and function normally with no interruptions.

"The support we get from the base is tremendous," he said.

"It is critical for the community that we have this going," he added. "With this program, we lose no services."

"The medical group really helped us through a crisis this week," Mr. Crumpton added.

"Our wing was ecstatic to have 911 working out of the med group," said Col. Francesca Vasta-Falldorf, 90th Medical Group commander.

Colonel Vasta-Falldorf added that she was amazed at the volume of calls the operators received while working in the base MCC.

While operating in the clinic, the Laramie County dispatchers received a total of 99 calls, including 68 911 emergencies, 16 ambulance requests and 15 fire department dispatches.

According to Mr. Crumpton, the high call volume is due to that fact that Laramie County 911 is a combined call center that handles emergency calls county-wide, with the exception of Pine Bluffs, Wyo.

Because of the vast area of responsibility of the Laramie County 911 Center, Mr. Crumpton said it is imperative to continue this relationship with the base. Both he and members of the 90th MDG said they plan to continue this agreement indefinitely.

Warren is the only medical clinic in the Air Force that has such an agreement with its community's 911 center.

The base is currently the prototype for other Air Force installations that want to establish similar programs.
